Mr Fung Ming Chuen is one of the few educators in Macau to combine decision-making in an international education body, teaching in higher education, and senior expertise within the former government system. He spent years in Macau's public healthcare service, building rigorous administrative and academic credentials, before successfully turning that management experience to private education. As an international organisation's vice president for strategic management, he now drives smart education and the shift to AI-assisted teaching across Macau and the wider Asia-Pacific.

Dr Fung Nok Him is a Macau-born biomedical scientist who teaches and carries out postdoctoral research at the School of Health and Biomedical Sciences, RMIT University, Australia. He completed his doctoral thesis in 2024 on the cellular targets behind chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), work that opens new ground for future lung disease treatment.

Current role: Lecturer and postdoctoral researcher at RMIT

  • Teaching and research: Lecturer in Biomedical Science at RMIT's School of Health and Biomedical Sciences, working concurrently as a postdoctoral researcher across both teaching and frontline research.
  • International publication: his findings appear in leading international medical journals and at international respiratory society congresses, and are indexed on Google Scholar, ORCID and other academic platforms.

Research focus: chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and severe asthma

  • COPD: investigating how long-term cigarette smoke exposure triggers inflammation in lung myeloid cells, leading to tissue damage, alveolar cell death and emphysema.
  • Severe asthma treatment: pinpointing the macrophage subsets that intensify allergic airway inflammation, in search of more effective treatment pathways.

Key breakthrough: blocking CD131 receptor signalling

  • Targeted therapy: research into biological treatment aimed at the CD131 receptor (the common β subunit), showing that blocking this pathway markedly prevents severe lung injury, airway fibrosis and emphysema.
